trench

trench coat - burda magazine 12/2013, #101

finally made a trench coat
that i had on my mind for nearly two years
ever since the pattern came out
..
almost made it last fall
as i had the pattern traced
and all the fabric and notions sourced out,
but then i stumbled upon perfect '70s trench coat
in my size, and for the price of one euro!
so why bother making a brand new one
..
a year later, i finally sewed it!
made my usual size 38
with no changes to the pattern
(except skipping the pockets and back vent,
print is already really busy
so i wanted to simplify the coat as much as possible)
..
pretty pleased with how it turned out..
and will be even more pleased
when i get back to my ironing board
and steam the hell out of that hem
so it ain't that wonky anymore
..

  1. I loooove it! Fits so nicely.
I often have this problem, that only after seeing the photos of the finished object, I see the wrinkles, bits of thread etc. Then I am always like "Whyyyy?!", because organizing a photoshoot is always the hardest thing in sewing :)

    1. i agree, photoshoot truly is the hardest thing to organize (especially if, as me, you first have to borrow camera, because yours is broken)..:)

  2. The design of the back is so lovely! It could almost be a dress. That fabric could brighten any grey day.

  4. What an interesting fabric!
I did the same this Autumn - I started to work on a coat and... I bought a perfect coat for a low price, and suddenly lost interest in sewing one... *^v^* Maybe I should make myself buy the lining and finish it, because I think I'd be happy with it.

    1. yeah, why not finishing it, it's always nicer to wear a coat you made yourself, no matter how perfect the store bought one may look like :)

  5. My favorite garment you sewed up so far, it is fabulous! What kind of fabric is this? I already made some jeans-pants out of the upholstery fabric that I got from the flirty Italian shop. I will send you a picture.

    1. thanks, it's one of my favorites too :) dunno what the fabric is, they labeled it as 'viscose', but i'm pretty damn sure it's not, feels pretty manmade and famable :) but the pring is great, and lining is really soft, so it's nice to wear anyways.. looking forward to that pants picture :) never saw what you boutght in that store
