dress - self made

it feels like these pics were shot ages ago
while it was more like a week ago
while we were still traveling..
they were shot in dalmatia
in the village where my mother was born and raised
..
a week later
i'm back home
back to a month of piled up work
and weather went from indian summer to full on november
so.. i'll be sewing trench coats and wool jackets any day now
but today, i wanna share my last summer dress of the year
..
it's made using burda's pattern
(from august this year, no. 116)
i had 1.3m of fabric, while burda calls for a bit over 2m
hence the center front and back seams
but i don't really mind the seams
since the pattern is quite bussy
..
i used french seams (except for the waist
where i sewed a regular seam, with elastic added to it)
..
not much to say about the dress
it's a  really easy one to make
no zippers, no lining, no facings..
also, it's my first ever mullet skirt
and i really like the way it looks
so might give it a go again
(maybe make a shorter version)

  1. Great dress. Love that theres no zips or buttons. and it uses minimum fabric. Total win! Will have to revisit this pattern. You clearly make it look more appealing with your gorgeous photos!

    1. thank you, janene! it is a total winner of a dress (and too bad the summer is over, so it won't get worn until springtime)

    1. thanks, trine! fit is quite good, haven't made a single alteration (although, bust dart sits a bit high, but that might be because of the fabric being too lightwaight and slippery, and not because of drafting error)

    1. i bought the magazine because of this pattern, and then it took too long for me to make it, so now the dress need to wait for the spring to get worn :)

  8. Very pretty! The cutout detail makes it really special (and of course the lovely bird fabric). We also had very early autumn weather here but now summer seems to have returned, at least for a few days... hope it's not too bad where you are either.

  9. Gorgeous! I had bought this burda just for this pattern but haven't made it yet - and your seams don't show at all:). Lovely setting too. Thanks to Heather for the link:)

    1. thanks for the lovely words :) they don't show too much, still there is some puckering that bothers me, but i believe that the fabric is the reason for puckering, it's satin, and not an expencive one :)

  10. Just stumbled upon your site. This issue of Burda arrived on the Australian newstands today. I'm so pleased your version of the dress as I thought my daughter would like it.

  11. Oooh, I'm digging this dress! Makes me wish I hadn't of let Burda expire... Dalmatia was the first place my husband wanted to go after the summer of 90 and he said it was the most beautiful place on earth next to Jerusalem ;).
