hard candy

dress - self made

dunno what to do with this dress
..
loved the idea:
creamy cotton fabric with pink polka dots
and heart-shaped neck line
sounds like a match made in heaven
..
made the dress on my brand new sewing machine
it was a dream to sew with it
so
yeah.. so far it sounds
like it should have been a total success
..
and you know how i always say
i don't give a damn what other people think
about my outfits
..
well, that is true
but i guess i don't give a damn
about what strangers think about my outfits
i don't mind going out in public wearing strange things
too colorful or too costumey ones
..
but, when it comes to my own mother
one look is all that takes
to make me feel like shit..
not a single word
just a look
(well, a stare more than a look)
saying:
you are 15 kg too heavy
and 15 years too old
to wear something like that
..
here i am
4 days later
i decided to pick myself up
dust myself off
and give it another try
(should have worked a bit harder on my facial expression though)
..

  2. please do not listen to your mother! (at least when it comes to your style) you look adorable and there are too many great things in this dress for it to remain unworn. i mean, sweetheart neckline, great pleating and polka dots!? love

  5. It looks lovely - the fabric, the pleats and the facial expressions! Especially when put together with the blue tights.

  6. You're never too old for a pretty dress! I think it's cute, even if your mother doesn't like it. :-)

(And hey, if you're worried it looks too young, just throw a cardigan over it and put boots on.)

  7. Fact: mothers will never be totally satisfied with our looks...ever! Even if they don´t say, we know. Looks like you have a lot of understanding with your mum, though. You have to be true to yourself and wear the things you like. As Katharine Hepburn used to say: If you always do(or wear) what interests you, at least one person is pleased.
I think you look very Mokosha!

    1. the reason why i started sewing was to be able to wear what i like, all the time.. my mum has completely different taste, and she often doesn't like what i wear, and i'm used to that.. usually.. have no idea why that bothered me so much this time..

  8. well usually i would advise to listen to your mother (being a mom myself...). in this case i love the dress, so i say wear it proudly!

  9. Isn't it amazing how mothers can do that to us? I bought yards and yards of fabric for the nursery. I was so sure I loved the colors and print. My mom took one look at it and shot it all down. Then I totally doubted my judgment and bought all new stuff. I think the dress looks great. I love that fabric, too.

    1. oh moms and their vision powers.. are the moms from krypton, i wonder?.. or even more important - are you just weeks away from your very own 'mom looks'?
also, hope you gonna do a post on your nursery, once it's all ready and everything :)

  10. Mothers... love them, but ARGH! Really, that dress is too pretty to not be worn, and I think your idea works! The neckline in particular is very very nice. Wear it anyway, but save yourself the looks and don't let her see it!

  11. love the dress, especially the pleats! i know i'm not alone when i think that polka dots are a neutral fabric. :)

my mum can lay on a real guilt trip sometimes. it's a world-wide mum-condition i think.

  12. Fortunately mother's are not always right!! You look wonderful in this dress. I love a good polka-dot dress, and you can't go wrong with such a classic silhouette - at any age and at any size.
