the shirt

shirt - self made
pants - thrifted

i've finally found a perfect shirt pattern
after years of search
..
so far, i tried bunch of different patterns
even drafted one or two myself
some of them looked nice
but not a single one was quite what i was looking for
(and i wanted something that looked
like that mom's shirt from the '70s
that i often wear, and that you can see here, here or here)
..
and then it hit me!
if i want to have a proper '70s shirt
i should probably use a '70s pattern
..
fabric is rayon chiffon
and i thought it's going to be hell working with it
but i guess it was my lucky day
everything worked like a charm
and this shirt is one of my neatest makes to date
..
and i kind of like the pants too
maybe i'll sew a similar pair
as these are not in the best shape..
 i bought them last winter
when i was freezing my ass off at the excavations site
they were cheap and made out of wool..
i make the strangest choices when it comes to my excavations outfits
can't think of anything more unpractical to wear while working in dirt
maybe a chiffon gown?
bear costume?
atmospheric diving suit?
i'm open for suggestions
as i'll leave for new round of excavations in may
..

    1. thanks, lisa.. i worked with it before, but sometimes it's a real nightmare, chiffon shift and fray and twist and does all the nasty things.. but this particular one behaved great :)

  4. Maybe working an excavation site in a bikini? I am a huge fan of 70's (and 80's) shirt patterns. There is something I like about the fit that I just can't seem to find in a modern pattern. Love the shirt!

    2. Amazing ! I actually have that magazine. I went through a phase of collecting old Burda Modens. I thought your collar was atypically small for the 70s but I guess they were over big collars by 1979.

    3. how great that uou have that magazine too! in that case, this is model 120, that comes in size 38! i always thought that '70s were all about big collars, but i have bunch of '70s burdas, from different years throughout the decade, and hardly any of them has large collar patterns..

  10. Really pretty shirt, and you look so cool in that outfit! As for the excavation outfit, how about a fullblown Disney princess ball gown, maybe like Belle's? It's so awesome you go on excavations, may I ask what you're going to work on in May? :)

    1. hehe, yeah, that would be cool.. or maybe tinker bell, wings would make the outfit even more awesome! as for the excavations, i have absolutelly no idea (that's my favorite part of the job), as we do so-called 'rescue archaeology', there is this big south stream of european gasline being build, and it crosses dozens of archaeological cites from all periods, and i can end up at any one of those (i prefer bronze age ones, but anything will do.. i totally might end up digging early middle ages necropolis, as last time)

  11. Gorgeous shirt! I love the fabric you've chosen too &, like everyone else says, I so admire your style! Also those trousers - that's like my ideal trouser pattern!

    1. thanks you, kathryn.. these trousers are kind of my ideal trosers as well, i'll have to recreate them (only size or two smaller, these are way too wide at hips)
